The BRAIN BOOK® System is a complete,
home-based cognitive retraining program for persons with brain injury (TBI and
ABI) who wish to acquire compensatory skills for the purpose of maximizing
cognitive function. The program has been successful for people with mild,
moderate and severe injuries. A
complete functional
assessment battery is available for anyone who may not be sure if the
program will be either too simplistic or too complex for them.
The BRAIN BOOK® System
is appropriate for people with brain injury who:

are able to read and write (minimum of grade 3 level),
|
|
possess self awareness/insight (or are capable of
acquiring it) |
|
are highly motivated to function at their maximum
vocational potential, |
|
are willing to independently commit the necessary time
and energy to complete the program successfully |
Program Design
The BRAIN BOOK® Program is
designed to teach persons with brain injury to compensate for cognitive
deficits resulting from brain injury, most notably short-term memory impairment
and difficulties with organization and problem-solving. Program tools consist
of audio, video, electronic and paper-based assistive devices, as well as
specialized and individualized instruction focusing on overcoming barriers in
the following areas:

difficulties becoming and staying oriented |
|
difficulties following instructions |
|
difficulties with initiation and follow-through |
|
difficulties with time management |
|
difficulties with organizing and sequencing tasks (task management)
|
|
difficulties with organizing and expressing thoughts (interpersonal
communication) |
|
difficulties with management of troubling feelings and socially
appropriate behaviors |
|
difficulties making effective, independent decisions |
|
difficulties solving problems independently |
Delivery of Services
Instruction is delivered directly to the consumer on the Internet. The distance
learning vehicle is the e-mail teaching list, BRAIN BOOK® Instruction. Peer support
and e-mail discussion on the topics of returning to work and learning skills is
available on the e-mail support lists, TBI-WORKING and
TBI-TEACHING. See the attached list for a complete inventory of
