I had been through spinal fusion surgery and months of physical therapy when I attempted to
return to my profession as an elementary school teacher in the Fall of 1997, but found I had
some difficulties completing some tasks and responsibilities because of short-term memory and
organizational problems. I had hoped to return to teaching because it’s something I have been
doing for 25 years, but it was too challenging without having the compensatory skills.
My psychologist found the BRAIN BOOK® System
on the Internet, did some research and put me in touch with Kathy. We decided that a "jump
start" with classes in Medford would be extremely beneficial to help me return to classroom
teaching. So I made the decision to ride the train up to Medford from California, where I live,
and spend two months at the BRAIN BOOK® System
school.
I am so excited and delighted about how well I’m doing! This program makes so much sense, I’m
surprised everyone isn’t using it. Not only have I acquired many skills and ideas to help
myself return to work, a side benefit is that I have learned invaluable information and
strategies to assist my students who have “learning differences,” to be more successful in the
classroom.
I tried to set up my own system before finding Kathy’s system, but just could not make all the
pieces work together. I had Post-It notes with messages and information posted all over my
dining table, desk, and kitchen counter, but could not find the information I needed when I
needed it. Clutter and papers were everywhere!
I was extremely frustrated and overwhelmed, as before my accident all my friends and family
members referred to me as “Ms. Super Organizer.”
After learning and implementing Kathy’s BRAIN BOOK®
System, not only am I able to do things, organize, and retrieve necessary information, I also
fell like I’m in control of my life again for the first time in almost four years!
I can dream, set goals, and implement an action plan, which has increased my self-confidence
and self-esteem enormously.
I plan to go back to teaching this summer, have a job offer to teach first grade in the Fall,
and have even developed a “Classroom BRAIN BOOK®”
with my skills trainer, Linda. We have personalized it with dividers and sections I need to
keep myself focused and organized daily, as I return to classroom teaching.
I cannot say enough about Kathy’s BRAIN BOOK®
System! Even though people couldn’t see that anything was “wrong” with me, (my injury is what
is called “invisible”), things were very much wrong, and just about everything I needed was in
the BRAIN BOOK® System!!
I feel so fortunate and blessed to have a curious psychologist who found this resource. I can
now REBUILD MY LIFE, and sincerely wish that everyone who needed it could get
the BRAIN BOOK® System!
