College Students with Brain Injury
The BRAIN BOOK® System’s program has been
used successfully with college students who need both the skills and the organization the
BRAIN BOOK® System provides. Vocational
rehabilitation counselors who are funding clients who are in return-to-school plans would be
wise to investigate how BRAIN BOOK® System’s
program can help college students with brain injury be successful.
Since reading with comprehension is often a significant problem following brain injury,
BRAIN BOOK® System
strategies for reading and
learning can make the difference between success and failure for people who are in school.
These are other skills are available to BRAIN BOOK® System students who are in college, via the
e-mail discussion list, TBI-TEACHING, and important distance-learning tool.
Accommodations
Kathy Moeller has also had direct, personal experience negotiating for
accommodations at both the college level and state licencing board level. She is happy to
share her strategies and tactics.
Her work sets a precedent for student everywhere when it comes to securing accommodations such
as extended testing time, breaking testing time into chunks and having a testing environment
that is not under florescent lighting. Kathy has also secured accommodations such as taking
tests (including final exams) with the aid of her laptop computer, as a prosthetic memory
device.
To date, Kathy has helped secure accommodations of all types at the college and state
licensing board levels. Contact Kathy Moeller at KathyM@brainbook.com
for more information on services that benefit adult students with brain injury.
